admin El sábado nos levantamos temprano y cuando nos asomamos por la ventana vimos que de momento teníamos suerte ya que aun que era un día bastante gris, no llovía.
Una vez salimos del apartamento nos dirigimos directamente a desayunar. Nos acercamos hacia la estación de Sao Bento ya que sería nuestra primera visita del día y decidimos desayunar en una de las cafeterías que hay enfrente de esta.
On Saturday we woke up early and when we looked out the window we saw that for the moment we were lucky since even though it was a pretty gray day, it didn’t rain.
Once we left the apartment we headed straight for breakfast. We approached the Sao Bento station as it would be our first visit of the day and we decided to have breakfast in one of the coffee shops in front of it.
Después ver la Estación de Sao Bento con sus famosas paredes llenas de azulejos representando escenas de la historia de Portugal, andamos por la Avenida de los Aliados y entramos en el McDonal’s más bonito que he visto nunca. Tras esto nos dirigimos a la Capilla de las Almas y después paseamos por la zona visitando A Perola do Bolhao y perdiendonos por las calles aledañas al Mercado do Bolhao que por cierto estaba cerrado por reformas, una pena. Seguimos andando hasta encontrarnos con la Iglesia de San Ildefonso y la Ópera.
After seeing the Sao Bento Station with its famous walls full of tiles depicting scenes from the history of Portugal, we walk along the Avenida de los Aliados and enter the most beautiful McDonal’s I’ve ever seen. After this we went to the Chapel of Souls and then we walked through the area visiting A Perola do Bolhao and getting lost in the streets surrounding the Mercado do Bolhao, which was certainly closed for renovations, a shame. We continue walking until we meet the Church of San Ildefonso and the Opera.
En ese punto del día se puso a llover y al ser prácticamente la hora de comer decidimos irnos al apartamento y pedir que nos llevasen la comida allí. Además Julia estaba un poco malita y queríamos que descansase un rato.
At that point of the day it started to rain and since it was practically time to eat we decided to go to the apartment and ask them to take our food there. Besides, Julia was a little sick and we wanted her to rest.
Después de comer y descansar, vimos que estaba dejando de llover así que nos pusimos de nuevo en marcha para aprovechar todo lo que pudiéramos porque para el domingo daban un montón de lluvia en la previsión meteorológica.
After eating and resting, we saw that it was stopping to rain so we set off again to take advantage of everything we could because for Sunday they gave a lot of rain in the weather forecast.
De nuevo nos dirigimos a la Estación de Sao Bento pero esta vez para ir hacia la torre de los Clérigos, pasamos antes por un mirador muy bonito en el que teníamos unas vistas preciosas del Rio Duero y de la Sé de Oporto .
Again we headed to the Sao Bento Station but this time to go to the Clérigos tower, we went through a very beautiful viewpoint where we had beautiful views of the Duero River and the Sé de Oporto.
Cerca de la Torre de los Clérigos se encuentra la Casa Oriental una tienda famosa por sus conservas pero sobre todo porque disponen de latas con infinidad de años plasmados en las mismas.
Near the Clérigos Tower is the Casa Oriental, a store famous for its preserves, but above all because they have cans with many years embodied in them.
Decidimos no subir a la Torre ya que con el carrito de Julia era bastante complicado por lo que rápidamente nos dispusimos a visitar la Iglesia del Carmen no sin antes pasar por la Libreria Lello la cual estaba bastante vacía, supongo que por el mal tiempo la gente no se animaba a salir y también porque eran al rededor de las 17.00h y ya empezaba a anochecer.
We decided not to climb the Tower since with Julia’s cart it was quite complicated, so we quickly set out to visit the Church of Carmen, but not before going through the Libreria Lello which was quite empty, I guess because of the bad weather people He did not dare to go out and also because it was around 5:00 p.m. and it was already beginning to get dark.
La Iglesia de las Carmelitas fue mi favorita, antes de verla el edificio religioso que más me gustó fue la Capilla de las almas pero en cuanto vi la Iglesia del Carmen mi opinión cambió completamente. Tanto el lugar donde se encuentra, en una plaza amplia como el paso del tranvía frente a ella, dotaban a esta de un encanto especial, a parte claro de que en la iglesia en sí misma es muy bonita.
The Church of Carmelitas was my favorite, before seeing it the religious building that I liked the most was the Chapel of Souls but as soon as I saw the Church of Carmen my opinion changed completely. Both the place where it is located, in a wide square and the passage of the tram in front of it, gave it a special charm, a clear part of which in the church itself is very beautiful.
Una vez habíamos visto esta zona cruzamos de nuevo la Avenida de los Aliados para visitar la catedral de Oporto y una vez vista bajamos por el barrio de Sé disfrutando de sus bonitas fachadas de colores y terminando aquí nuestra visita a la ciudad de Oporto por este día.
Once we had seen this area we crossed the Avenue of the Allies again to visit the cathedral of Porto and once seen we went down the Sé neighborhood enjoying its beautiful colored facades and ending here our visit to the city of Porto for this day.
Como al día siguiente no paraba de llover cruzamos el Puente de Luis I en coche y subimos hacia el mirador, pero llovía tanto que era una tontería salir del coche. Quisimos ver la ciudad desde otra perspectiva y el mirador Das Fontainas nos pillaba de camino para ir a nuestro siguiente destino así que allí que fuimos.
Supongo que algunos habréis visto que la gente se hace unas fotos muy bonitas y originales en estás famosas escaleras. Lo que no se ve es que para hacerse la foto tienes que colarte en una propiedad privada ya que son unas escaleras para acceder una vivienda por lo que para mí en ningún momento fue una opción viable.
As the next day it did not stop raining we crossed the Bridge of Luis I by car and climbed towards the viewpoint, but it was raining so much that it was silly to get out of the car. We wanted to see the city from another perspective and the Das Fontainas viewpoint caught us on our way to our next destination, so there we went.
I guess some of you will have seen that people take some very nice and original photos on these famous stairs. What is not seen is that to take the picture you have to sneak into a private property since they are stairs to access a house so for me it was never a viable option.
Tras salir de Oporto pusimos rumbo a la Parroquia de Santa Marinha de Cortegaça ubicada en la localidad de Cortegaça. Es una iglesia como muchas en Oporto pero no se porqué esta cuando la vi en otros blogs me pareció muy bonita, así que como estaba mas o menos en nuestro camino para volver a casa, decidimos ir a visitarla en nuestra vuelta a Madrid.
After leaving Porto we headed to the Parish of Santa Marinha de Cortegaça located in the town of Cortegaça. It is a church like many in Porto but I don’t know why it was very beautiful when I saw it in other blogs, so since I was more or less on our way to return home, we decided to visit it on our return to Madrid.
